Monthly Dinner Club

This is a blogspot which will serve as a Restaurant Review for our Monthly Dinner Club. We are based in Cape Town and have visited restaurants since January 2001. Each month, one of the Organisers selects a new restaurant with the only rule being that it is not allowed to be a venue that the Monthly Dinner Club or one of the Organisers have frequented before.

This is Crystal - synonymous with excellence, elegance and ambience Our menu changes with the seasons and includes a number of themes: the vegetable garden, the sea, the farm, the veld, the fynbos. From the mountains to the sea - our colourful dishes reflect local flavours which are basic and strong, but also sweet tastes, sun drenched, heavy and rich, smelling of the earth. Reviews:

- Great frozen margarita with salted rim. Belgium chocolate dessert was a bargain, well presented and fed everyone. Fantastic chandelier - very pretty & crystal:-)

- Lucy finally turned and joined me in having dessert 1st!!! :-) The rest will soon follow hahahah:-)

- Norwegian salmon pretty good. Service a bit slow. Very good entertainment, but it was in table, nothing to do with the restaurant!!

- No Pole!! Bo Kaap vis was baie lekker.

- It was good! Beef was a bit dry. Will only know by tomorrow how the ostrich is.

- Chips from mixed grill was also very nice but won't be able to comment on the chops. Coffee sounds bubbly.

- Crystal chandelier looked beautiful especially when the last rays of day light flickered over the crystals. Food was excellent - too much egg plant in the starter but char grilled chicken was wonderful. Waiting for really good coffee!! Happy Cat!!

- Confirmed that coffee is good. Interesting, nice cups. German nut biscuits good.

And from Lucy : these sure are a lot of comments for such a little groupie attending this dinner hey.... maybe it's got to do with some people disappearing for shooters every half hour:-)

Review:

- Our fish was crap - the patrons were very entertaining. Tiger lady woke up everyone.

- Lamb shank was ok. Not the best I've had but very tender. Service not too bad.

- Take a table from Spur, put it in the middle of the dance floor at Kudeta or some such club. Delete the dorky happy-clappy waiters, and you have Eastwoods. Typical Spur food, but no conversation due to auditory assault. At least I could watch the cricket...

- Nothing spectacular. too loud music for the "old" people. "Interesting" people to watch.
